Redact PDFs without uploading them anywhere.

True redaction that runs 100% in your browser. The text underneath is destroyed — not hidden behind a black box someone can copy-paste out. Your client documents never touch a server. Not even ours.

Bad redactions end careers.

Courts, journalists, and opposing counsel keep finding "redacted" text under black rectangles — because most tools just draw a box over the text and leave it in the file. Others make you upload privileged client documents to a stranger's server, which can itself breach confidentiality obligations. RedactSafe fixes both problems at once: nothing is uploaded, and exported pages are flattened so redacted content is physically gone from the file.

How it works

🔒

1. Open locally

Drop in a PDF. It's read by your browser's own memory — no upload, no account, no tracking. Works with wi-fi off.

🎯

2. Auto-detect & mark

One click finds SSNs, emails, phone numbers, card numbers, IBANs, dollar amounts, and dates. Search a name and redact every occurrence at once — every redacted word is listed for review, and any can be removed as a group. Drag boxes, or black out an entire page in one click.

🔥

3. Export — truly clean

Pages are flattened on export: whatever you marked is physically gone from the file — no hidden layer, nothing to un-hide. Marking is your call; always review the output before sending.

Questions lawyers actually ask

How do I know my files aren't uploaded?

Open the app, load a document, then turn off your internet connection — everything still works, including export. You can also open your browser's network inspector: after the page loads, RedactSafe makes zero network requests. The entire tool is one auditable HTML file.

Is this "real" redaction or just black boxes?

Real. On export, each page is re-rendered as a flat image with redactions burned in, and a new PDF is built from those images. The original text objects, fonts, and metadata are not carried over. There is nothing under the box because there is no "under."

What's the catch with flattening?

The exported PDF is image-based, so it's no longer text-searchable (you can OCR it afterwards if needed). For redaction workflows this is a feature: it's the same reason government agencies print-and-rescan sensitive releases.

Can I rely on auto-detect to find everything?

No — and no redaction tool should claim otherwise. Auto-detect is a pattern-matching aid: it can miss text in images, scans without a text layer, or terms it wasn’t asked to find. It exists to speed you up, not replace review. Always check every page of the export before distributing it.

Does it work on scanned documents?

Yes for manual box redaction. Auto-detect needs a text layer, so run OCR first if your scan doesn't have one.
